It is winter and my husband usually gets a cough and colds. He always preferred drinking over-the-counter medicine and drinking all of it until it runs out. However, he is not getting well still. I always told him to take my super medicine – the ginger tea. 😊 When we were still in our bf-gf stage and in a long-distance relationship, I was always worried about him. He used to get sick (cough and colds) for days. Then I introduced him to the power of ginger tea. This is usually what my nanay (mother) always prepares for the family whenever we have a cough, colds, or sore throat. It is very effective in healing.
Back in our province, we don’t only use ginger as one of the food spices but also to treat those common illnesses in winter, like stomachache, and others. I grew up seeing my parents and grandparents drink ginger tea before they start their long day of work as farmers. Although I imposed my hubby to drink it, I avoid drinking it myself (hehe). The taste is so strong and unpleasant. I always escape whenever my nanay gives it to me to drink.
It is not new to my hubby because he grew up in Puerto Rico where his grandpa used to drink this as well. However, he never tasted it before. Whenever I prepare this for my hubby, he starts getting well. So, he is obliged to drink it too. He started speaking Spanish and making faces just to drink the ginger tea. Kidding aside, ginger has a lot of good health benefits, too. It is easy to prepare – just make sure the ginger is clean. Then cut into pieces, put in a casserole/pan with water then boil. We can add lemon juice and honey too. However, my hubby prefers it as plain ginger tea.
In this cold season, if you are experiencing days of cough and colds and over-the-counter medicine do no good, you might want to try the Ginger power!
